“Investing Green for a Smart Future”

  GreenWire – Issue 5 – July 2011

Letter from Bob de Wit, CEO of GreenAngel Energy

Robert Bob de Wit The summer hasn’t slowed us down here in the GreenAngel offices as new developments with our investee companies keep the momentum moving and the anticipation alive. Jay Giraud at REV is energizing things with his plans to revolutionize the smart grid with vehicles, while Paradigm reaches another milestone with the approval of their Lulu Island project.

As we continue to find innovative ways to reach new investors and update current ones we are planning a webinar in the coming months to showcase our fund to cleantech advisors both in and outside of BC. We hope that this online, interactive session will help provide information to get more interest. Our current investors know we have a great product, it’s just a matter of spreading our message to the right influencers. Stay tuned for details if you would like to participate.

For one of our recent blog posts, “Why Women Invest in Cleantech”, Adrienne our Corporate Development Intern conducted primary research via a popular parenting site to get at the root of what it is about cleantech investing that is attractive to women and families. Some of the highlights that came out of this research are that virtually all respondents consider the line of business and industry which their investment is in. In an open ended question about the topic these respondents shared their concerns for the environment and desires for their investment to help mitigate their concerns.

Be sure to keep your eye on the GreenAngel blog between newsletters to get fresh news on our investees’ activity, along with recent Cleantech Industry trends. If you have a blog topic you want us to cover, or something you’d like more info on, please don’t hesitate to email us at info@greenangelenergy.ca or contact us via our social media channels.

Sincerely,
Bob de Wit

The Role of Government for Cleantech Innovation

Canadian Federal Government Logo with CO2 Green LeafThe role of government in driving climate change initiatives is a hot topic in mainstream media today. While some applaud the government for taking control of the issue, others have felt that initiatives like BC’s carbon tax are mere drops in the bucket and are not having any actual impact. What is not up for contention however is the role that government regulations play in the advancement of clean technologies that are helping provide climate change solutions and allowing Canada to move beyond carbon trading.

Why Women are Investing Green

image of female green investorOur recent shareholder records show that a significant portion of our new retail investors are women (or at least have female names!) which has led us to wonder what it is about cleantech investment that is driving this increased interest among women. After doing some primary research we realized there are an infinite number of reasons why GAE is an attractive investment vehicle for female or any savvy, future-orientated investors. We would love to hear your thoughts on the subject and have you provide us with your own hypothesis as to why we’ve observed a spike in female investors in the recent months.
