Light-Based Technologies (LBT) has, and continues to be a GreenAngel Energy success story. With 20 patents issued, pending or provisional, LBT has been a valuable asset to the GAE fund (TSX.V: GAE) and is an up and comer on the LED lighting market. A good proportion of the 2010 GAE earnings were due to an increase in the value of the GAE investment in LBT. This increase was based on a subsequent venture capital financing carried out by LBT, for more information please read our recent article titled GreenAngel Reports a Successful 2010 Fiscal Year. LBT continues to drive value for the GAE fund, highlighting the benefits of having a range of investments. Going forward, the worldwide solid state lighting (SSL) market continues to grow, and is estimated to be worth $6 billion by 2015. LBT is well placed to take advantage of this opportunity.
As more and more consumers become aware of the benefits of LED lighting (environmental stewardship with improved comfort and ambiance), LBT will be ready to capitalize on this shift. LBT offers easy conversion, proven efficiencies, lower costs of implementation, and increased stability and control. LBT brings compatibility and performance to specification-grade lighting fixtures. There is no better solution for the SSL lighting industry that requires high performance at a competitive price.
And LBT is ready for the challenge. With a management team made up of technology veterans, a board consisting of seasoned VCs and industry experts, and an advisory committee with a significant combined history in the electronic and lighting industry, LBT is equipped to become market leaders.Visit the LBT website to learn more about their team:

In the June 2011 issue, LED Magazine published the article “LED lighting must work with legacy dimming technologies”. It highlighted a need for new dimmer technologies to be compatible with less modern technologies. According to author David Copper “dimming capability can therefore be considered as a key advantage that can be a factor in growing the general acceptance and use of LED lighting. But LED luminaire makers face a challenge in designing products that work with a variety of legacy dimming-control technologies…”. LBT’s answer to this particular challenge distinguishes them from the competition, and will make them leaders in the mass adoption of SSL. More specifically, LBT was featured in the January issue of LED Professional Review, “Facts About Dimming”.
LBT has celebrated some recent milestones that are worth sharing. This May LBT was short-listed for the Red Herring’s Top 100 North America award, a prominent list featuring up and coming North American private technology ventures (See the Red Herring 2011 Innovation Finalists). Also in May, LBT was proud to announce that they will be providing the deep-dimming electronic driver used to display the award winning Helieon™ LED-based lighting module to be prominently displayed at the Bridgelux booth at Lightfair International 2011 (Lightfair is the world’s largest annual architectural and commercial lighting trade show). Both of these recent accomplishments speak to LBT’s increased brand awareness in the SSL marketplace and ability to drive innovation in the highly competitive lighting sphere.
