Paradigm Environmental Technologies (www.microsludge.com) has developed MicroSludge®, a patented technology that significantly enhances the capacity and capability of municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and industrial facilities. With current methods of wastewater processing, a by-product called waste-activated sludge (WAS) is created which is not easily broken down. This results in significant additional waste being created in the treatment process, which must be transported and disposed of off-site.

Paradigm’s modular MicroSludge process addresses this challenge and provides three main benefits. First it significantly reduces the “digestion” time needed for a facility to process waste, thus avoiding plant expansion and the associated land and capital costs required as a community grows. MicroSludge’s potential increased throughput can provide an additional 30% to 50% of waste digester capacity with existing systems. Second, by efficiently liquefying WAS, the MicroSludge process reduces the volume of bio-solids for disposal. Last, the MicroSludge process converts a much higher percentage of WAS to methane gas, which can be converted into electricity to power the facility. In a budget-constrained world, Paradigm’s MicroSludge process and technology offers both sustainability and a quick ROI.

MicroSludge is a commercially available product with over ten years of development and performance verification by CH2M HILL and EarthTech (now AECOM).
