REV Technologies (REV) (http://www.revtechnologies.ca/) sets the standard for advanced smart grid and electric vehicle technology.

REV MicroGrid Wind FarmFor the last three years REV has focused its development on vehicle technologies that allows for the two-way exchange of electricity with the power grid, enabling electric cars to become a versatile storage resource for renewable power. With rapid evolution in the marketplace come new opportunities, and REV has been preparing for growth in two exciting areas.

REVTech Engineering is a new division focused on electric vehicle powertrain and energy storage engineering services for the automotive, aviation, marine, military and aerospace industries. As more organizations seek solutions to green their vehicle fleets and reduce their carbon footprint, REVTech is here to provide the application-specific engineering know-how to help them meet their goals. To this end REV is now hard at work on two new powertrain and energy system projects for a major aviation company.

REVTech V2G diagramLaunching The AutoGrid marks the strategic evolution of REV’s long-term vision for an energy internet enabled by electric cars. By 2020, electric cars will store more total energy than the US grid presently produces. The AutoGrid can unlock those energy reservoirs and create a new revenue stream for the electric vehicle value chain. REV’s combined electric vehicle and networking technologies work like a symphony conducted by the AutoGrid Network. Together they enable the next generation of EV’s to act as high-output energy endpoints that improve reliability of the grid, increase the adoption of wind and solar power and allow vehicles to act as power stations, at home, work and play. Networking vehicles to fast-switch between powering off-board devices while staying synchronized with the grid is what REV calls Vehicle To X, or V2X, and lies at the core of their technology differentiation and growing patent portfolio.

REVTech V2G diagramAs REV Technologies embarks on new territory they are stepping outside the box and onto the grid, the smart grid. Founder and CEO, Jay Giraud, has a vision for a network of vehicles that will collectively provide utilities with back-up energy in times of fluctuation, achieving increased stability for the grid. As renewable energy becomes more necessary, “back up” solutions will be needed to allow this transition to actually occur. REV’s technology will be able to provide insurance to the grid which will ultimately permit renewable energy sources to become major providers.
