“Truly Ethical Investing”

Letter from Bob de Wit, CEO of GreenAngel Energy

Robert Bob de WitWhat do ERV cores, VCCs, and exits have in common? They were all mentioned nearly every day in the GAE offices this month, as the 2012 year begins with a lot of exciting news. dPoint Technologies is off to a roaring start in 2012 having been written up in the Toronto Star for their latest project with Tridel (condo developers) using their ERV membrane cores. With any luck for GAE shareholders, this news pushes dPoint’s technology even further up the ladder of commercialization, moving the company closer to a potential exit in the future.

Along with an article explaining Tridel’s implementation of dPoint’s ERV cores in a recent development, we decided to write a complemenatary blog post explaining why dPoint’s technology is favoured. The article goes into some light technical detail around the difference between HRV and ERV in reference to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in residential and commercial towers. This is a must-read article that will have you quickly asking what type of energy recovery system your dwelling uses.

Unfortunately, not all corporations are as forward looking as Tridel with regard to integrating sustainable technology and business practices into everyday operations (…yet). In an article written by our blogging team, we discuss the idea of “sustainability” becoming mainstream practice for many organizations. The term can no longer be thought of as a peripheral activity, but a primary practice integrated into the very core of any successful company.

Problem or Opportunity? Fringe or Mainstream? How Do You See Sustainability?

Shift in Attitude for SustainabilityLately it seems as though “sustainability” is everywhere in business. While in the past we used to think of sustainability simply as economic sustainability, the ability to remain a going concern, today it has a very different connotation. Now when we talk about sustainability it’s about much more than just being competitive. Sustainability is about a firm’s ability to function as a business while being aware of its impact on society and the environment, simultaneously focusing on key business functions.

HRV’s and ERV’s: What’s the Difference?

DPoint's air exchange membrane filter for HVAC to keep humidity and heatIn the quest for more energy efficient and comfortable working and living spaces, dPoint Technologies has developed innovative solutions to conventional problems, playing a key role in redefining the HVAC industry (such as the recent project with Tridel). As building envelopes tighten, adequate ventilation continues to grow as one of the most pressing issues. Since the 1980’s, the phenomena of sick building syndrome has led to greater recognition of the need for proper airflow, both in quantity and quality. However, increased ventilation in buildings has a greater energy demand, and mitigating that cost is the purpose of ERV’s and HRV’s.
