“New Green Investments Promise a Strong Future”
GreenWire – Issue 11 – March/April, 2012
Letter from Bob de Wit, CEO of GreenAngel Energy
We’re in the thick of what is easily the busiest time of year for GreenAngel Energy. Our 2011 audited financial report is out and available online and we’ve announced the date of our 2012 AGM and annual showcase. Be sure to register ASAP (Register for the 2012 GreenAngel AGM and Showcase) as space is limited with preference to current shareholders. Following the AGM, our investee companies will be presenting and providing updates as to their very promising progress. Included in these presentations will be a description of our newest equity position in Mazza Innovations. You can learn more about this acquisition in Mazza here. We’ve also written a very informative blog post that explains phytochemical extraction, the core of Mazza’s business.
We are also very pleased to be part of the UBC Net Impact Conference on April 20th. Both our Chairman Mike Volker, and our Director of Corporate Development Ryan Schmidt will be on panels discussing different elements of clean energy, sustainable, and impact investment. Please follow this link to learn more about the conference and register through the UBC Net Impact Conference’s website.
The idea of “Impact Investing” is starting to gain more traction with everyday investors. More mainstream investment organizations are getting on board and putting money toward companies that are improving the global social landscape, or creating more energy efficient technologies. This idea is at the core of GreenAngel Energy’s investment policy, we’re happy that some of the big players are starting to take notice. Our recent article on Impact Investing goes further to explain this increasingly popular investment strategy.
The GreenAngel blog is always a great place to get fresh news on our investees’ activity, along with recent Greentech Industry trends. If you have an industry topic you want us to cover, a suggestion for the website or resource centre, or something you’d like more info on, please don’t hesitate to email us at info@greenangelenergy.ca or contact us via our social media channels.

Sincerely,
Bob de Wit

What are Phytochemicals and Why are they Important?
If you eat fruits and vegetables, nuts, drink wine, coffee, tea, or anything that is from a plant, there is an extremely high likelihood that you have consumed compounds called phytochemicals. The truth is that there have been thousands of studies linking phytochemicals and antioxidants to improved health and disease resistance. A new GreenAngel equity position in Mazza Innovations is helping solve a very real problem for the extraction of these compounds.
Impact Investing, No Longer on the Fringe
A few years ago it was only organizations like Vancity and other community foundations that were making aggressive investments in funds we now call impact investments. On January 24, 2012 RBC announced a $20M commitment to new impact investments sending a powerful message to the investment community: Investors want to make a social and environmental difference with their dollars, while also collecting modest profits.
GreenAngel Endorses Dallas Kachan for Vancity Board of Directors
GreenAngel Energy encourages members of the Vancity credit union to vote starting this week for local BC cleantech analyst and consultant Dallas Kachan in their board of directors elections. Vancity members are electing three board members through the month of April. Dallas is the former managing director of the Cleantech Group in San Francisco, which helped define the cleantech category. We believe Dallas would effectively represent the green technology community on the board of Vancity, which controls $16 billion in assets. Follow this link to learn more about Dallas.
